Balakha Farmhouse's peaceful, bucolic exterior hides a very long history indeed. Built in the 15th-century by Bumthang native and revered terton Pema Lingpa, the farmhouse is owned by a family that has looked after neighboring Ngang Lhakhang for generations. Current host, Sonam, once worked as a tour guide, and makes a genial and knowledgeable keeper of the building's history, with his extended family filling the house with life and laughter.
